NEW YORK — A heartless grandma
was busted Saturday for allegedly abandoning her 5-year-old
granddaughter in a vehicle for more than an hour while she visited a
Queens casino.
A security
guard at Resorts World Casino in South Ozone Park spotted the girl
trapped inside the vehicle about 11 a.m. and called the cops, officials
said.
Renee Osby, 56, of
Bushwick, Brooklyn, returned to her vehicle about an hour later and told
police she had gone inside to cash a check.
She was arrested for acting in a manner injurious to a child, cops said.
Osby’s granddaughter, who was unharmed, was reunited with her mother Saturday afternoon, officials said.
Hours earlier, a 3-year-old boy was found alone wandering the streets of Harlem.
The
boy, spotted near W. 146th St. and St. Nicholas Ave. about 9:30 a.m.,
was taken to Harlem Hospital for observation but was not injured, cops
said.
About half an hour
later, the panicked 31-year-old boyfriend of the tyke’s mother showed up
at the 30th precinct stationhouse to report him missing.
He
admitted to leaving the boy alone in their apartment when he was
supposed to be babysitting while the boy’s mother was at work.
Somehow the boy got out and the boyfriend returned home to find the kid gone.
The boyfriend was taken into custody and is expected to be charged with endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
