A middle-aged man who was arrested for having sexual intercourse
with his 11-year old daughter, has been arraigned before a Makurdi
Court. It was learned that the accused was arrested after allegedly
engaging the girl in days of repeated sexual abuse whenever his wife was
away from home.
The rapist was, caught in the act by a neighbour, who heard the cry of
the girl, while she was allegedly being sexually abused, in one of his
escapades. The neighbour called the attention of his wife to the
development. She examined her daughter, convinced that she had been
defiled, and reported the matter to the police.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Hyacinth Gbakun, at the hearing told the
court that the accused contravened Section 91 of the Penal Code and the
laws of Benue State.
However, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction, but the prosecuting
officer asked for an adjournment to allow the police carry out further
investigations.
The presiding judge, Mrs. Cecilia Bakara, in her ruling, ordered that
the accused be remanded at Makurdi Federal Prison and adjourned the case
to September 29.
