Unknown
gunmen reported to be loyalists of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa raided and
lock-down a motor park in Uvwie town in Delta State.
Reports reveal that unknown gunmen took over the local Motor Park
of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Uvwie Local
Government Area (LGA) of Delta State on Wednesday, July 29, 2015.
According to SR, a heavy gun battle took place at the motor park
when armed men suspected to be loyalists of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa
invaded the park with intent to chase the park leadership away.
It was further reported that the gunmen allegedly led by Francis
Ariyor, chased the incumbent NURTW Chairman, Napoleon Adibu and his
cabinet out of the park after several minutes of gunshot exchange.
A driver who agreed to be interviewed disclosed that the gunmen
shot sporadically as Adibu and his men were also seen returning fire.
The gun battle paralyzed social and commercial activities in the area as residents scampered for their lives.
A statement signed by the Secretary of the Uvwie Local Government
Council, Uvwie Emete Julius, assured residents of their safety while
acknowledging Adibu as the lawful administrator of the motor park.
Delta State Police spokesperson Celestina Kalu confirmed the story
when contacted and said the police had made some arrests related to the
incident.
