Amid reports of a move away from Stamford Bridge, home
ground of Chelsea FC, the management of the Barclays Premier League
Champions has slammed a whooping €35millon tag on Nigerian international
John Mikel Obi.
This comes after it was alleged that the Chelsea midfielder is ready
to end his nine-year love affair with the club by joining Fenerbahce.
In a report on a website
www.AA-sports.co.uk,
Fenerbahçe president Aziz Yildirim, said that Chelsea’s management
asked him to cough out €35 million for Mikel. The Fenerbache president
didn’t say if he would meet the €35million asking price for Mikel or
look elsewhere for his replacement.
However, another report on Saturday night revealed that Fenerbache’s
management have turned their eyes to another Chelsea star Ramires as a
replacement for their departed central midfielder Emre Belözoglu.
It remains to be seen if Mikel would end his nine year romance with
Chelsea this season as large number of European clubs have continued to
seek his signature or see out his contract which expires in 2017, when
the Nigerian would walk out of Chelsea as a free agent.
A source told BBC Sport:
“There’s absolutely no truth to reports linking Mikel with a move to Turkey or any Chinese club for that matter
“Only two clubs from the UAE showed strong interest last month but they could not meet his club’s valuation.
“Mikel has a contract with Chelsea until 2017, as things stand he
will not be leaving the club this transfer window as speculated.”
Meanwhile, the Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, has refused to sanction
the sale of Mikel, delivering a blow to United Arab Emirates suitors Al
Ain and Al Wahda.
Mikel, who started only six league games last season, wants to leave
Stamford Bridge after failing to hold down a regular starting place. The
28-year-old, who has two years left on his contract, has been told he
remains part of manager Mourinho’s future plans.
